Types of Surveys

Preliminary Survey - The collection of survey data on which to base studies on a proposed project.

Boundary Survey  - A survey made to establish or re-establish a boundary line on the ground or to obtain data for constructing a map or plat showing a boundary line

Topographic Survey – A survey of an area which has, for its major purposes, the determination of the ground and the location of natural and artificial objects.

Site Planning Survey – A combination of boundary and topographic surveys with resulting plans used for designing development features such as roads, subdivisions, pipelines, commercial and industrial construction.

Construction Survey – The Survey measurements made while construction is in progress to control elevation, horizontal position and dimensions, and to determine adequacy of completion.

Subdivision Survey – A type of land survey in which the legal boundaries of an area are located, and the area is divided into parcels of lots, streets, right-of-way, and other accessories. All necessary corners or dividing lines are monumented.

ALTA – (American Land Title Association) - A type of survey made for the sole use of a lending agency to evaluate title problems relating to possession.

Energy Surveys – A type of survey dedicated to the Energy industry, which includes pipelines, oil and gas fields, power lines, transmission lines, and all other fields related to oil and gas exploration.
